The Charr battled with the Forgotten in the Blazeridge Mountains. After the Forgotten being a threat to the Charr, The Humans appeared and drove the Charr north with the help of their The Six Gods. The leader of the warbands, Khan-Ur, was assassinated and the Charr began to gave up hope on every reclaiming their homelands. the four children of Khan-Ur stepped up and established the High Legions: The Blood Legion, The Ash Legion, The Iron Legion and the Flame Legion.
The Charr worship no gods but instead rely on their own Charr-made steel to lead them to victory. Back in the days of the original Guild Wars, The Charr began to search for Gods to call their own and to combat the humans. A warband from the Flame Legion called the "Burnt Warband" discovered gods for the Charr, at the volcano called Hrangmer. The Shamans from all other Legions (but partiularly the Flame Legion) created a caste and the Shamans caste was the first Charr to unite under their new Gods, The Titans. a female Charr called Bathea Havocbringer rejected the gods and she was swiftly executed as a sacrifice to the gods and all females were forbidden from joining warbands and armies. The Charr invaded the Great Northern Wall using the Cauldron of Cataclysm, a gift from their new gods. They assaulted the three Human kingdoms in the continent Tyria. Kryta, Orr and their own previcous home - Ascalon. Thanks to a Charr named Scorch Emberspire, The Charr found out that they were mislead and that the Titans weren't actually Gods. Pyre Fierceshot and his warband dedicated their lives to bring down the Shaman Caste and the Shamans began to lose grip over the Charr. They went to the Destroyers and claimed them as their new gods, Therefore reaffirmed the rule over the Charr. also this new alliance was also quickly ended in the Guild Wars: Eye of the North expansion when the Charr let loose Destroyers apon the Players' character but the Destroyers turned and fought the Charr themselves instead, Pyre Fierceshot told the charr to remember that day and to send word that there were no gods.
A Charr's first names commonly are based off of their culture. Male Charr names use sharper sounding consonants while females use a more smooth consonant. Although there are expections. Charr may use Greek or Roman inspired names.
Charr surnames consist of two words that are put together. One of the words symbolize the warband that the charr is in. (e.g Rytlock Brimstone is of the Stone Warband). The second word a Charr usually gets to pick that symbolizes or expresses the history, personality or beliefs of the charr. It is not uncommon to have members of the same warband have the word that symbolizes the warbands' name in a different order to another member.
