Guild Wars 2 Expansion?!

Will the players of Guild Wars 2 FINALLY get what they want and have an expansion coming in 2015? I think so and here's why!

Originally when Guild Wars 2 released, Developers at ArenaNet stated that there will be probably be no need for an expansion pack releasing for Guild Wars 2, ever. They said that The Living Story will bring us expansion like content within small to medium-sized monthly (Now bi-monthly) updates. Many players of the game thought that this was an unwise decision but went along with it anyway.

Then, in 2013 one of the developers stated that instead of scrapping the whole idea of an expansion pack, ArenaNet decided that they were going to "Keep it on the table" and this got the hopes of numerous players jumpin' up like a broken toaster. We're now nearing the end of 2014 and still no confirmed expansion pack - operative word being "Confirmed".

I personally think that Guild Wars 2 will have an expansion pack that will be announced/released during Q1/Q2 of 2015. Why do I think so you ask? Well, here's why.

1: NCsoft earnings reports.

NCSoft, The publishers of Guild Wars 2, have had several fiscal reports which mention an expansion over at ArenaNet. This of course couldn't mean anything and could just be a suggestion but the most recent fiscal reports reads that "There will be an opportunity to announce the expansion in the near future" and this is highly suspect if you ask me.

2: Guild Wars 2's new PvP mode

A couple of months ago during an interview a gamescon, a developer from ArenaNet announced that they were working on new PvP game mode. and in fact, that this new game mode as also already refined and is being tested. So far, ArenaNet haven't since mentioned this new PvP mode or its release into the public. For those that are thinking that this might have been the Courtyard map, think again, because Courtyard was released on April 15th of 2014 whereas this interview took place on August 20th of 2014. And besides, PvP modes are good content for an expansion, don't you think?

3: The CDI threads

"CDI" stands for Collaborative Development Initiative. CDI threads allow to the developers and the players to communicate about projects that may or may not be in development. Recently Guild Wars 2 had 3 phases of these threads that discussed 4 different things: Guild Halls, Guild Raids, Guild VS Guild and Guild Quality of life changes. ArenaNet has stated that they could neither confirm nor deny that they are working on any of these. Players of Guild Wars 2 were yearning about 2 of these features in particular for a long time now, Guild Halls and raids. So I’m going to take an assumption and say that I don't think ArenaNet would get the hopes of the players up this high just to never let it happen.

4: Raid job hiring

Following along with the last point on the blog, ArenaNet posted on the Guild Wars 2 job website that they were looking for a new developer that must have "Experience in raid developing". If this doesn't trigger the car alarms or set of the sprinklers then my in game name isn't Admiral Butt Butt! Although the job listing has been taken down now, you can find quotes of it here.

5: The Missing employees and secret project.

While we're on the topic of ArenaNets employees, a few months ago ArenaNet said that a very large portion of people working on a secret project. ArenaNet has about 250(ish) employees and right now only about 20-40 of them work on the Living Story full time (I’m pretty sure all of 225 employees didn't go AFK :P). We haven't heard a whisper about this secret project. I also think that they are testing the waters so to speak with these past Living Story Episode bosses in terms of what would work in a raid and what wouldn't.

In conclusion, hold on to your hats and herd in all your sheep because this guy thinks there is an expansion on the way!
