Wintersday, a battle between the Gods?!

Ahh Wintersday. A time in Guild Wars 2 when children everywhere play in the snow, When dolyak carry around presents to be delivered to children.  When toymaker Tixx’s experiments go horribly wrong and we have to go save him again. BUT has Tyria forgotten what Wintersday actually meant?

Wintersday is actually a time of war. When the Human Gods, Dwayna and Grenth, go head-to-head in order to decide whether Season of the Zephyr (Spring) starts early or if Season of the Colossus (Winter) ends later than usual! Dwayna represents Season of the Zephyr and is seen as the goddess of spring while Grenth represents Season of the Colossus. Originally during Wintersday, you would see the servants of each of these Gods doing their respective duties. If you are a support of Grenth, you would go around aiding his servants, the Grentches, in doing mischievous and downright naughty deeds such as demolishing snowmen and destroying Wintersday presents. But if you would rather support Dwayna, You would go around town building snowmen and delivering gifts and spreading general Wintersday holly jolly joy! I personally like the former option more ;).

Avatars of both of the Gods would spawn right before the scores are tallied and the winner is decided. If Grenth were to win the battle on Wintersday, fireworks would light up the Tyrian sky and the Grentches would be let loose to wreak havoc on the streets, celebrating the victory of their master. Grenth would also spawn presents that may or may not be deadly.  Grenth’s supporters would often be killed in order to summon bone minions, Ouch, although supporters would also get the Horns of Grenth. If Dwayna were to win the battle, fireworks would also break out in the sky and her followers would be able to collect a present from her feet (Yule Caps, kind of like Christmas hats).

Although Wintersday isn’t as it used to be, we still have a lot of cool things coming up for Wintersday in tomorrow’s patch but i thought i would let you know what Wintersday was all about back in the day. The Wintersday patch releases tomorrow on the 16th of December!
